Kids at Webster Middle School in Cedarburg will get to see the LGBTQ-plus mural that’s been behind a covering.
The school’s principal, Tony DeRosa, sent a letter home to parents yesterday explaining that the school has changed its mind about covering the mural up. DeRosa said the mural, called Love in Universal, is about creating an inclusive environment at the middle school. Originally, DeRosa wanted the mural covered because kids as young as six-years-old would be in the school for a summer academy. DeRosa said Cedarburg schools are trying to figure out ‘how to best represent and show support for diverse student populations.’
On that note, a new event aims to do the same and they’re calling it PridetoberFest.
Organizers of Milwaukee’s PrideFest say that while this year’s main parade and festival remain canceled, they are planning a scaled-back event for later in the fall.
PridetoberFest will be at Henry Maier Festival Park, and run on Friday October 8th and Saturday October 9th. PrideFest in 2019 drew about 45 thousand people to Milwaukee, organizers hope to get about 20 thousand people for PridetoberFest.
