Democrats at the Wisconsin Capitol say the move to take money away from cities that defund their police departments is a direct shot at Milwaukee.
The Wisconsin Senate yesterday approved a plan that would take away, dollar-for-dollar, state money from any city or county that cuts its police department. Republicans Senator Van Wanggaard, who wrote the plan, says the idea is to encourage cities to invest in public safety. Milwaukee Democratic Senator Chris Larson says the plan means it is the Republicans who are really defunding the police.
