While two conservative lawmakers are lining-up against a new expungement expansion in Madison, a coalition of conservative groups is lining-up in support.
Groups like Americans for Prosperity-Wisconsin, Wisconsin Manufacturers & Commerce, the Badger Institute, and Grover Norquist’s Americans for Tax Reform yesterday all said the proposal to allow more people to clear their criminal records will give more people a second chance. The idea is to allow people over the age of 25 to ask for an expungement for non-violent crimes. State Senator Julian Bradkley says with crime spiking in the state, now is not the time to allow people to ‘hide’ their criminal past.
