Budget Back and Forth Continues at WI Capitol

Governor Tony Evers is threatening to scuttle the state’s next budget.

The governor yesterday said he may veto the 40-billion-dollar-plus spending plan because it doesn’t spend enough on schools. Evers said he has not made a final decision, but said a total veto is ‘on the table.’ Democrats in Madison want the Republicans who are writing the budget to spend a full 500-million-dollars more on schools in order to guarantee a one-and-a-half-billion-dollar match from Washington, D.C. Republicans have budgeted 500-million for schools in the budget, but about 350-million of that won’t be spent until next year.
