The former Minnesota police officer who killed a Black man during a traffic stop last weekend might face criminal charges as soon as today. NBC’s Ron Allen has more.
Daunte Wright was pulled over near Minneapolis on Sunday afternoon for having expired plates, and was being arrested for an outstanding warrant when he tried to flee. It’s been said that now-former officer Kim Potter may have meant to tase Wright but fired her gun by accident.
Wright is being remembered by loved ones. Chyna Whitaker is the mother of Daunte Wright’s toddler son. She spoke to the Today show about the pain of the loss.
The officer who shot the 20-year-old Wright had been on the force for 26 years. The chief has now also stepped down.
