An East Greenwich eighth grader wins this year’s Rhode Island Spelling Bee.
Wheeler School’s Seoyon Kim’s proper spelling of the word [[ bout ]] sent her into the winner’s circle during Friday’s event. The spelling bee was online only this year due to COVID-19 concerns.
Kim advances to compete for herself, her school and for Rhode Island in the preliminaries leading up to the Scripps National Spelling Bee finals in Orlando in July. The preliminaries, quarterfinals and semifinals will happen earlier online only while the final rounds will be in person starting July 8th at ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex at Walt Disney World Resort.
