Recent rain and snow melt in the upper Chippewa River watershed are causing increased river levels on the Chippewa
River in Eau Claire.
At 11 a.m. on Friday, March 13th, the Chippewa River gauge at Grand Avenue read 764 feet. This is 9-feet below the downtown flood stage of 773 feet. At its current level the river has entered our Action stage, prompting the closure of the lowest lying areas of the Chippewa River Trail. For the safety of residents, the following areas are closed:
• Chippewa River Trail – behind the UW-Eau Claire Fine Arts Building
• Chippewa River Trail – at the boat landing behind Hobbs Ice Arena
The current crest projection is 767 feet on Monday. The City will continue to monitor the river closely and may close
additional areas of the trail as necessary for safety and will provide information and updates as necessary.
