Alliant Energy is shutting down Wisconsin’s last coal-fired energy plant in the state.
In a news release, Alliant says it’s retiring the Columbia Energy Center near Portage by the end of 2023 to lower customer costs. Alliant says it’s going to work with employees to offer opportunities, tuition reimbursement and other resources to help support the community’s economic health.
