What goes up, must come down. If you’re in the process of dismantling holiday decorations there are some options for both your tree and the lights.
If you’ve let your Christmas tree dry out over the weekend, Eau Claire County Emergency Management recommends throwing out your live tree as soon as possible because dry trees create a fire hazard. The department says you should get rid of the tree within a few days of the holiday, though several communities offer a December 30th collection date.
You may not know what to do with those old Christmas lights you’ve been waiting to throw out after the holiday. Eau Claire County Recycling says you can bring them to the courthouse until mid-January, and they’ll take care of it for you. They accept strands of holiday lights, electrical cords, appliance cords, and phone cords.
They say the bin is outside the building, so you won’t have to go inside.
