A lung transplant patient who underwent the procedure due to COVID-19 issues is now out of the hospital.
Double lung transplant recipient Carmen Lerma was discharged Thursday from University Hospital where she has been since October. UW Health’s Doctor Dan McCarthy says Lerma survived the COVID-19 infection but her lungs were damaged by the disease requiring the transplants. WKOW reported yesterday Lerma is the first COVID-19 patient in Wisconsin to undergo double lung transplant surgery.
