WI Coronavirus Cases Not Slowing

Wisconsin has had more than two thousand people in the hospital with the coronavirus for a little more than a week.

The state’s Department of Health Services yesterday reported two thousand-77 people are in the hospital with the virus. Of them, 424 are in intensive care. DHS says 14 people are being treated at the state’s overflow hospital in West Allis. The number of people in the hospital with the coronavirus in Wisconsin is high, but health officials say it has been holding steady.

When it comes to new cases, it was another day of over seven thousand coronavirus positives in Wisconsin. The state’s Department of Health Services yesterday reported seven thousand-497 positives. That brings Wisconsin’s total since March to 293 thousand positives. DHS also reported 58 new deaths and 264 new positives in the hospital.

Contact tracing continues, and offers some insight into spread.

There is a lot of focus on controlling the coronavirus in bars and restaurants, but the top public health doctor in Wisconsin says many people are catching the virus at home. Dr Ryan Westergaard yesterday said there are super-spreader events tied back to bars, restaurants, or weddings. But he said the infection rate jumps to 50 percent when someone brings the virus home.

Westergaard says if one family member is positive, chances are that other people in that same house will test positive as well.
