There is continued attention around a proposed heath ordinace in our area.
The Eau Claire Chamber of Commerce on Friday sent an email to member businesses asking them to publicly speak-out against the new rules. The Chamber says the new health ordinance gives the city-county’s health department new powers that make it easier to shut businesses down. The Chamber’s Scott Rogers says people need to make their voices heard. Eau Claire’s city council is set to have a hearing on the ordinance tonight.
On the state level, Wisconsin lawmakers are set to take the first step toward likely gutting or killing Governor Evers’ order that limits crowds in bars, restaurants, and stores across the state.
The legislature’s rules-making committee is scheduled to meet this afternoon for a hearing on the order. Republican lawmakers in Madison want to strike down the governor’s order. But even if they do, it could take a month for the state’s Department of Health Services to act. The governor’s order remains in place for a little less than a month.
