Eau Claire’s city attorney says the new public health ordinance simply allows the city-county health department to enforce its coronavirus rules, even without a statewide order.
But there are a lot of people in Eau Claire are upset with the new ordinance. They fear it gives the local health department too much power over local businesses and other things, like crowds. City Attorney Steve Nick said the change now gives the city council a role in giving the health department the power to act. Nick says the health department will not be unchecked in how it enforces the rules.
