Friends and colleagues are mourning the death of a Bay Port High School teacher.
Heidi Hussli died yesterday morning after being hospitalized with COVID-19. Hussli was a German teacher at the school for 16 years. Classes are canceled on Monday and Tuesday and counselors have been made available for faculty, staff and students.
However, the family of the Bay Port teacher who passed away last week after testing positive for the coronavirus doesn’t think she caught the virus at school. Heidi Hussli’s family says they believe she got sick at a funeral for a family friend. Leaders at the Howard-Suamico School District, where Hussli taught, sent a letter home to parents explaining that she wore protection and had plexiglass around her desk.
The district says she didn’t have any direct contact with students after testing positive for the virus.
