In-person classes at UW Madison lasted one week.
Chancellor Rebecca Blank yesterday said the school is moving all classes online, starting next week. Blank on Monday told undergraduate students they could only leave their dorms or apartments for class, or work, or to get food. Now she is saying in-person classes are too much of a risk. Blank is asking students not to go home this weekend or during the two-weeks of online classes. UW-Madison yesterday said just over one thousand of its 40 thousand students have tested positive for the coronavirus since late last month.
Dane County’s executive wants UW-Madison students sent home. County Executive Joe Parisi yesterday sent a letter to UW-Madison’s chancellor and UW’s president, asking that they close dorms on campus in Madison and send everyone home for two weeks. Parisi says nearly 75 percent of new coronavirus cases in Dane County are tied to the university.
