The streets of Kenosha were much more calm last night. After three nights of fires, clashes with the police, and finally a shooting that left two people dead, Kenosha saw mostly subdued protests. There are no reports of any major disruptions or outbreaks of violence. There were more National Guard troops on the ground last night, and Kenosha leaders say they are strictly enforcing the city’s curfew.
The officer who shot Jacob Blake during an arrest Sunday is being identified.
Wisconsin Attorney General Josh Kaul said Rusten Sheskey fired his weapon seven times at Blake. Officers used a Taser on Blake, but it didn’t have an effect. Blake walked around his vehicle, opened the door and leaned in, which is when Sheskey fired. Kaul said before the shooting, Blake admitted he was in possession of a knife.
Kaul says Department of Justice investigators found Blake’s knife on the floor of that car. No one is saying just what the revelation means for potential charges in the case.
Prosecutors in Kenosha, Wisconsin have not decided whether to bring charges against the police officer who shot Jacob Blake Sunday. Mark Mayfield has the story.
We do know more about the 17-year-old accused of shooting three people during Kenosha’s violent Tuesday. He is night is looking at first degree homicide charges. Police just across the stateline in Antioch, Illinois arrested Kyle Rittenhouse yesterday. Prosecutors in Kenosha have filed a first degree homicide charge, but have to wait til Rittenhouse is back in Kenosha to formally file charges.
Online video appears to show Rittenhouse shoot two people late Tuesday night. Though the same video shows those two people punch or attempt to kick him while he is on the ground.
