Parts of downtown Milwaukee are eerily quiet and empty.
Today is the first day of Milwaukee’s Democratic National Convention, but almost no one is attending. Earlier this year, planners were expecting 50 thousand people. Now, the crowd is expected in the hundreds. The Wisconsin Center will serve as the online convention’s hub. There are few Democratic delegates in Milwaukee, and none of the party’s big names are coming. That includes Joe Biden who will instead accept the Democratic nomination from his home state of Delaware.
Meanwhile, on the other side of ticket, both President Trump and Vice President Mike Pence are coming to the state this week. The president is going to rally in Oshkosh tonight. The vice president will be in Madison on Wednesday. Both men say Wisconsin is key to victory in November, both men say it is telling that Democrats are skipping the state.
