LOCAL CORONAVIRUS CASES ADDED

Eau Claire County is adding another death to its coronavirus count.

City-County health director Lieske Giese yesterday said a man who was over 65 and had underlying health conditions is the latest to die from the virus. Since March, Giese says 409 people in Eau Claire have tested positive for the coronavirus, and 346 have fully recovered.

On the state level, Wisconsin has seen the largest number of negative coronavirus tests in a single day. The state’s Department of Health Services yesterday reported more than 14-thousand negative tests. That’s more in one day than at any point since DHS started testing back in March.

DHS says there were 712 positive tests. DHS also reported a huge drop in hospitalizations. Yesterday’s numbers show 190 people are being treated in the hospital because of the virus, with 79 in the ICU. Just two days ago, over 300 people were in the hospital. DHS is not offering an explanation for the drop.
