The Federal Trade Commission is warning people across Wisconsin about a coronavirus scam.
Identity thieves have been texting people pretending to be contact tracers for health departments tracking the coronavirus. A text message claims the victim has been in contact with somebody who tested positive for COVID-19 and advises the victim to access more information using a link that is provided.
Officials say it’s a scam and clicking that link downloads software which can then access personal information.
