Three top officials at a state prison in Portage are on paid leave after inmates escape.
The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported yesterday that Columbia Correctional Institution warden Susan Novak, Deputy Warden Lucas Weber and Security Director Brian Gustke are serving a two week suspension that started this past Wednesday.
The suspensions relate to an investigation into all factors related to how inmates Thomas Deering and James Newman got away on April 16th and made it to Rockford, Illinois where they were captured the next day. Several lower ranking prison employees were also suspended and a prison food service worker was arrested as part of the ongoing investigation.
