UPDATE: Altoona Superintendent Dan Peggs was in court today, as expected. Peggs was granted home release although that will not bring him back here to Altoona. Peggs is not allowed on to have any contact with children, including his own. Nor, is he allowed on Altoona School Property.
Earlier today: As our community continues to react to the recent arrest of the Superintendent of Altoona, we may have more details on the case today. If convicted, Daniel Peggs faces between 10 years to life in federal prison for the sex trafficking charge and between 15 and 30 years in federal prison for the child pornography charge.
Altoona Police arrested Peggs during a traffic stop while he was on his way to school Thursday morning. He pleaded not guilty to both charges in his first appearance in U.S. District Court in Madison.
As of now, Peggs remains in Dane County Jail and is scheduled to appear in court 1:00 for a possible home release.
