The superintendent for Altoona School District is under arrest, charged with production of child pornography and sex trafficking of a minor.
Altoona Police arrested Dan Peggs while he was on his way to school Thursday morning. According to the federal indictment, Peggs is accused of recruiting a minor for sex and creating a child pornography video involving that minor. His alleged crimes occurred between October 2015 and May 2016, according to the report.
In the wake of this, a local group is educating the public on the warning signs of sex trafficking, Fierce Freedom is offering to meet with students in the Altoona School District to teach them what to look for and how to better protect themselves against traffickers. Statistics show that trafficking has been located in every Wisconsin county. The group says changes in students’ behaviors are often the biggest indicators that they could be victims of trafficking.
