There will likely be a showdown over what to do with Wisconsin’s extra money next summer.
The state’s budget writing panel yesterday voted along party lines to spend about 250 million-dollars of the state’s surplus on a tax cut. Republicans voted for the plan, Democrats voted against it. Republicans want to spend other pieces of the surplus on reducing state debt. Governor Tony Evers has said that he wants the extra money to go to schools.
It remains to be seen if lawmakers and the governor can find some common ground.
