The sheriff in Chippewa County says he didn’t fully communicate with neighbors in New Auburn last fall about a sex offender who was placed in the community.
Sheriff Jim Kowalczyk last night told neighbors that mistakes were made ahead of David Hager’s placement in a home in New Auburn. But the sheriff said his office is making sure that the community is safe. The sheriff said Hager, who spent time in prison for abusing children, cannot leave his home without a chaperon and is under almost constant surveillance.
