YES, IT WAS A TORNADO

The storms were strong last night, and near Elk Mound, we know that yes, it was a tornado.

Chippewa County Sheriff Jim Kowalczyk says last night’s storm that cut through the Town of Wheaton was in fact a tornado. There is plenty of damage, but the sheriff says a few people suffered only minor injuries. Chippewa County is asking people to stay away from the town today.  Forecasters say the tornado came from a strong line of storms that cut across parts of western Wisconsin last night.

Crews are not saying when they expect to get the power back on for everyone in Chippewa and Dunn counties. Those areas were hit the hardest by last night’s storms. The Dunn County Energy Cooperative says the storms knocked out power to thousands of their customers. Xcel Energy says crews are working to restore power to hundreds of their customers in Eau Claire and western Wisconsin. Both companies are asking people to let them know if their power is out.
