September is National Literacy Month.
According to Wisconsin Literacy-dot-org about one-point-five-million Wisconsinites qualify for literacy services because they are at the lowest levels of literacy skills. The U.S. Census in 2010 showed on average seven-point-three-percent of Wisconsin residents lack basic prose literacy skills. Officials say people can help solve the problem by helping adults prepare for the GED and citizenship test and by reading to and tutoring young people.
