LACROSSE JUDGE FIRES BACK AFTER CRITICISM

One of La Crosse County’s judges is trying to explain why many criminal suspects in the county don’t spend much time in jail.

Judge Scott Horne penned an op-ed in the La Crosse Tribune yesterday.  He says La Crosse’s acting police chief is wrong to say he cannot protect the community because judges are not keeping repeat offenders locked-up.  Horne says Wisconsin law requires judges to consider a signature bond as the first option, and allows police to show that someone should be kept in jail.

Horne says if people don’t like the rules for keeping people out of jail, they should talk to lawmakers in Madison.
