UW POLITICAL NOTES: ROAD PLAN HITS SPEED BUMP, SECURITY STUDY BREAKS CODES

Governor Tony Evers doesn’t appear to be a fan of the Republican road plan in the state.  The governor yesterday said the proposal from lawmakers to increase fees on drivers in Wisconsin lets out-of-state drivers use our roads for free.  Evers wanted to raise the gas tax by eight-cents-per-gallon to pay for new road construction. The governor is waiting for the full legislature to approve the road plan, and the rest of the new state budget, before he will act.

Governor Tony Evers says Republicans are making a mistake by moving ahead with a new state Capitol security study without Democrats.  The governor yesterday said Republicans on the Joint Finance Committee approved the study without input from his party or from Madison police.  The governor said security at the statehouse shouldn’t be about partisan politics.
