City leaders in La Crosse want visitors to pay a bigger piece of the cost to upgrade their local convention center.
La Crosse Mayor Tim Kabat is looking to raise the city’s hotel tax from eight-percent to nine-and-a-half-percent. He wants to find about two-and-a-half million-dollars a year to pay for 42-million-dollars in upgrades to the La Crosse Center.
The mayor says he doesn’t want property tax payers to have to foot the entire bill. La Crosse’s city council will vote on the idea tonight.
