Federal regulators want to fine the St. Croix Chippewa tribe five million-dollars because tribal leaders stole about a million-and-a-half dollars.
The National Indian Gaming Commission announced the fine yesterday. The commission says they are asking for such a large fine because the tribe recently admitted that it’s finances are in terrible shape.
Two tribal elders and a consultant are accused of taking money for years from the tribe’s casino and spending it on themselves.
