Eau Claire roads
continue to have slippery spots several days after a snowstorm moved through
the area. The Wisconsin Department of
Transportation has issued a warning saying the dangerous cold in the state can
enhance conditions for black ice. Street crews have been laying sand to
help commuters gain traction.
Eau Claire public transit is stopping routes early in the
evening. Buses ran from 5:45 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. yesterday, with the same
schedule continuing today. The schedule is expected to run slightly
behind today because of equipment malfunctions.
Health officials in Eau Claire say people are well prepared
for the cold, with no cases of frostbite or hypothermia. Officials from
Marshfield and HSHS say closing schools was a good move that protected
people. Doctors warn that at current area wind chills, frostbite can set
in within five minutes, with hypothermia following shortly afterward.
