Officials with the highway department in Outagamie County hope a new road treatment will be an effective defense against snow and ice. The highway department recently started to use brine to treat roadways and says it was effective during recent snows.
The brine is a very salty liquid which takes action faster than road salt. It’s designed to melt ice immediately. Outagamie officials say they’d like to make the full transition from road salt to brine-only to treat the roads.
