It was a WHEEL big win for local roads last night as Eau Claire County will be implementing a new 30-dollar wheel tax. The fee got the green light by the County Board lastnight and passed on right by a vote of 20 to nine. Vehicles such as motorcycles, mopeds, and motor homes will be exempt. Officials say the fee will help raise over two million dollars for county highways.
Meanwhile, The La Crosse County Board is considering new funding options for road repairs. The board will be chatting ballot options today, asking voters which they prefer-One option is an annual 56-dollar wheel tax per vehicle, and the other is a one-time 15-percent property tax increase. The board would retain the final decision on the issue.
