U.S. Rep. Ron Kind toured the La Crosse City Brewery recently and discussed the impact the beer industry is facing after the Trump Administration’s implementation of a new 10% tariff on aluminum. Over half of the beer produced in America annually is packed in aluminum cans or bottles.
Over 50% of United States aluminum is imported from Canada, with nearly 10% of aluminum imports used in food and drink production. The price of aluminum has gone up 130% since the beginning of 2018. And estimates are that 8,000 jobs are supported in Wisconsin’s Third Congressional District by the beer industry, with a total economic impact of over $1 Billion.
