The Eau Claire Fire Department mourns the death of one of their own. Below is the information from Fire Chief, Matthew Jagger
It is with profound sadness that the Eau Claire Fire Department announces the line-of-duty death of Firefighter Bryce Jungbluth.
Firefighter Jungbluth suffered a sudden medical emergency on July 26, 2026, after coming off duty.
Bryce served the Eau Claire Fire Department and Carrboro Fire-Rescue with passion, dedication, courage, and honor. He cared deeply about the fire service and approached every shift with a willingness to learn, serve others, and support his fellow firefighters. His commitment to this profession and to the community he served will not be forgotten.
Members of the fire service have been, and will continue to maintain, an Honor Watch, ensuring Bryce is never alone until he is laid to rest. This longstanding tradition reflects the promise firefighters make to stand beside one another, both in life and in death.
The Eau Claire Fire Department extends its deepest condolences to Bryce’s family, friends, and all those affected by this tremendous loss. We respectfully ask the community to keep them in their thoughts during this difficult time.
The Eau Claire Fire Department is inviting the community to honor Firefighter Bryce Jungbluth during a funeral procession today.
The department says the escort is expected to arrive in Eau Claire around 12:30 p.m., after departing Minneapolis. From there, the procession will travel east on Truax Boulevard, south on North Clairemont Avenue, then north on Hastings Way before continuing to Hayward.
Community members who wish to pay their respects are encouraged to gather safely along the route, remain off the roadway, and follow directions from law enforcement and public safety personnel.
Officials note that the timing of the procession could change depending on traffic and other conditions.
A procession is tentatively planned for Saturday, August 1, 2026, through the city of Eau Claire. The route and approximate time will be shared once they have been finalized.
Funeral and memorial service information also will be shared once arrangements have been finalized.
Eau Claire City Council President Jeremy Gragert and Eau Claire City Manager Dave Solberg are ordering the flags of the United States and the State of Wisconsin to be flown at half-staff at all city buildings as a mark of respect for the line-of-duty death of Firefighter Bryce Jungbluth of the Eau Claire Fire Department.
This order is effective immediately and will continue until sunset on August 10, the day of his interment.
