Health officials are preparing communities for major Medicaid changes set to take effect next year.
During a roundtable in Eau Claire, Department of Health Services Secretary Kirsten Johnson met with nonprofit leaders and Democratic lawmakers to discuss new work requirements for BadgerCare Plus recipients. Beginning next year, many enrollees will need to verify employment, education, or volunteer work when applying for or renewing coverage. Local leaders say they’re concerned the new rules could lead to more people losing health insurance, as Medicaid enrollment in Wisconsin has already fallen by about 20-thousand people over the past year.
