A destructive tornado has ripped through northeast Wisconsin today as a fast-moving line of storms moves through the Midwest. Kathy Patten, who lives in Eagle River, says she and her husband were shocked to see all of the damage outside their home.
The tornado caused extensive damage and has left thousands without power, but there are no confirmations of fatalities or injuries yet. The storm system that caused the twister is now pummeling parts Illinois and Indiana, and is threatening Kentucky. A severe thunderstorm watch has been issued to the north and northeast of the Louisville Metro area.
Governor Tony Evers says the state is ready to help communities across Wisconsin that were heavily damaged by yesterday’s tornado.
The National Weather Service confirmed a tornado measuring at least EF-2 caused extensive damage in Menasha and Appleton. Thousands remain without power and Menasha posted an overnight curfew in the city. Outagamie County officials are urging residents to stay inside their homes and for everyone else not to enter the city unless it’s an emergency. The county estimates some 20-thousand residents are without power.
Municipalities elsewhere in Fox Valley are busy today assessing damage.
