Senator Baldwin Introduces Bill to Restore and Protect the Mississippi River

A new bill in Congress aims to boost long-term protection and restoration efforts along the Mississippi River.

Wisconsin Senator Tammy Baldwin has introduced legislation creating the Mississippi River Restoration and Resilience Initiative, a federal program designed to help improve water quality, restore wildlife habitat, reduce flooding risks and combat invasive species.

Baldwin says the Mississippi River is critical to Wisconsin’s economy, recreation industry and drinking water supply, and the proposal would invest in projects to help communities better prepare for flooding, storms and other environmental challenges.

The legislation is modeled after the successful Great Lakes Restoration Initiative and now heads to Congress for consideration.
