Quick action by a neighbor helped keep a garage fire from spreading Monday night in Eau Claire.
The Eau Claire Fire Department says crews responded just before 10 p.m. to a home in the 3400 block of Locust Lane after receiving a report of a structure fire. When firefighters arrived, they found light smoke coming from an open garage. Investigators determined a fire had started on a workbench, but a neighbor was able to extinguish the flames before crews arrived.
Firefighters checked the area to make sure the fire had not spread beyond the garage. No injuries were reported, and damage is estimated at about $2,000. The cause remains under investigation.
