Crews Go Under High Bridge

The first task in repairing Eau Claire’s High Bridge is to see just how much damage there is.

City engineering director Leah Ness yesterday said that’s what crews are doing this week. The city council last week voted to save the bridge, which is closed because of a crack in its foundation. Ness says crews are digging at the base of the bridge to see just how much of that foundation will need to be replaced. The city figures it will take as much as six weeks to fix each of the bridge’s three piers, which means it will be months before the bridge may be safe enough to open.
