Ballot Battle Continues

Ballot Battle Continues

Republicans at the Wisconsin Capitol are not letting-up in their push to reform the state’s elections.

An Assembly committee yesterday held a hearing on several plans that supporters say will close the loopholes that were exploited last fall. Green Bay state Rep. David Steffen says something must be done to restore trust in Wisconsin’s electoral process. He says, at best, less than half of voters trust the election system. His plan deals specifically with absentee ballots, and making sure voters actually fill them out.

Voters in some parts of central Wisconsin have another election on their schedule. Governor Tony Evers yesterday set a special election for July to replace former state Rep. John Jagler. His district covers Watertown, Waterloo and Columbus. Jagler was elected to the Wisconsin Senate in this month’s election. Candidates who want to take his place can now begin their campaigns.
