WI Coronavirus Cases Tick Up, Gaps in Vaccination Efforts

The measuring sticks for the coronavirus in Wisconsin are pointing in the wrong direction.

The state’s Department of Health Services yesterday reported both more positives and more people in the hospital. DHS says 304 people are now in the hospital with the virus. That number was under 300 just last week. DHS is also reporting a seven-day positive average of three-point-eight-percent. That number was just above two-percent last month.

There are gaps in Wisconsin’s vaccination effort that are to be addressed.

The state’s Department of Health Services yesterday said more older, white people have been vaccinated than anyone else. DHS says 78-percent of doses have gone to people 65 and older. Thirty-five-percent of doses have gone to whites. Just over 15-percent of doses in Wisconsin have gone to Black people. DHS has spent weeks trying to target the state’s black communities to increase those numbers.
