Hello. Hope you are staying warm while we remember what a true Wisconsin Winter is like.

Each Saturday morning we take a few moments to look back before we step into the new day ahead. A little “scroll down memory lane.” Just a simple way to ease into your weekend and enjoy a mellow morning.

So, grab your favorite morning mug and lets see what events have happened along the way to bring is to this day.

Today is Saturday, February 6th, the 37th day of the year.  There are 328 days until the end of the year.

On this day: 

In 1865, General Robert E. Lee was appointed General-in-Chief of the Confederate States Army.

In 1911, the first old-age home for pioneers opened in Prescott, Arizona.

In 1976, jazz pianist Vince Guraldi died at the age of 43.  He is best remembered for writing and performing the music for the “Charlie Brown” television specials.

In 1991, Television Hall-of-Famer Danny Thomas died at the age of 79.  In addition to his legendary television career, Thomas also founded St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital. 

In 1993, Tennis Hall-of-Famer Arthur Ashe died at the age of 49. 

In 1998, Beach Boys singer, guitarist Carl Wilson died at the age of 51.

In 2002, Britain’s Queen Elizabeth II reached a monarchy milestone, somberly marking 50 years as monarch on the anniversary of the death of her father, King George VI.

In 2007, astronaut Lisa Nowak was charged with battery and attempted murder after she allegedly tried to kidnap a woman she considered a romantic rival. 

In 2014, Jay Leno hosted his final episode of “The Tonight Show With Jay Leno,” ending 22 years as host of the late night talk show.

In 2016, Brett Favre was inducted into the pro Football hall of Fame.  Favre was joined by wide receiver Marvin Harrison, linebacker Kevin Greene, tackle Orlando Pace, and head coach Tony Dungy in the Pro Football Hall of Fame’s Class of 2016.

In 2016, then-Democratic presidential contender Bernie Sanders took a break from the campaign trail to make an appearance on “Saturday Night LIve.”   

In 2019, President Trump makes the State of the Union address a week later than usual due to a government shutdown.

In 2020, astronaut Christina Koch finished the longest spaceflight by a woman astronaut.  This was after 328 days on the Internet Space Station.

In 2020, the first COVID-19 death in the U.S. occurred.  This wasn’t confirmed by the CDC until late April.
