Madison Approves Pilot Program for 9-1-1 Calls

Madison is rejecting a budget amendment that would have maintained police officer numbers.

This comes after Mayor Satya Rhodes-Conway proposed a more than 349-million-dollar budget that reduced full-time officer positions.  Around 20 residents spoke up against funding the police during public comment.

The committee did approve an amendment for a pilot program sending paramedics and mental health workers on 9-1-1 calls instead of police in certain instances.
