EC Urges Safe Halloween Practices

Halloween is normally an occasion we all look forward to together: costumes, decorations, parties, and of course Trick-or-Treating. This year, with the threat of COVID still in our community, there are certain guidelines that will be different than in years past.
The City of Eau Claire is working towards a safe, healthy, and Happy Halloween so, for those who will be taking part in Trick-or-Treating this year, October 31 from 5:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m., here are a few reminders and tips from the city on how to celebrate safely:

• Carry a flashlight and include reflective or bright elements to costumes to increase visibility
• Watch for vehicles and be careful crossing the street – look both ways
• Young kids should be accompanied by an adult
• Stay with your family
• Wait to eat treats until an adult can check them
• Guide kids to walk on the sidewalk or the right side of the road
This Year – to slow the spread of COVID-19
• If you’re sick – don’t go trick-or-treating or hand out candy
• Mask up – wear a cloth face covering (incorporate it into your costume!)
• Keep your circle small – Trick-or-Treat only with people you live with
• Practice 6-feet of physical distancing from others who aren’t in your circle
• Use hand sanitizer often and wash hands thoroughly before eating any treats. Avoid touching
your eyes, nose, and mouth
• Hand out candy in small bags or cups to avoid contact
• Keep it local – traveling to other areas can lead to greater spread of the virus.

We will keep updating Halloween information as we get closer to the screams and spooking season!
