LOCAL CORONAVIRUS NOTES: MASKS, CROWDS, AND CLASSES…OH MY!

LOCAL CORONAVIRUS NOTES: MASKS, CROWDS, AND CLASSES…OH MY!

It’s not a rule, but it IS a recommendation.

Eau Claire City Council unanimously passed a resolution recommending and encouraging the use of masks when out in the community.

CDC recommends wearing them and local health officials urge the same, saying a face covering is one of the ways to help prevent the spread of COVID-19. As it stands now, it is not a mandate. However, City Council does have the authority to make it one.

In other local changes, the latest coronavirus recommendation from public health managers in Barron County cuts crowd sizes in half. The county’s health department yesterday said indoor crowds should be limited to 25 people, and outdoor crowds should be limited to 30. The health department says the spike in coronavirus cases is prompting the move. Since March, Barron County has seen 51 people test positive for the virus and more than four thousand people test negative.

And in other reactions, as the first day of classes gets closer at UW Eau Claire, some students are worried about what that will mean. A handful of students yesterday said they are worried that their fellow classmates won’t wear masks all the time, as UW-EC is requiring. The school’s Warren Anderson says masks will be required in classrooms, dining halls, and other buildings. He says they are recommended on the rest of campus.
