DOGGONE’IT…FIREWORKS CAN BE SCARY!

Animal care agencies across Wisconsin urge pet owners to take extra precautions to help calm their pet’s fear of fireworks.

Statistics reveal at least 40-percent of dogs have a noise phobia which can include power tools or thunderstorms but fireworks are a common source of distress.  Cats are not immune when it comes to a fear of fireworks so experts advise taking the dog for a good long walk before dark and spending a little extra play time with the cat so both burn off energy which can reduce anxiety.

Providing new toys and long-lasting chews for distraction and finding the quietest room possible for them will also help manage a pet’s anxiety.
