LOOKING OUT “FUR” OUR FRIENDS

Eau Claire police are warning people not to leave their pets locked inside hot cars this summer.

Officials said even days in the high-60’s and low-70’s could pose a threat to animals. The police department said they take two or three calls daily about endangered pets in cars. Police say cracking the windows doesn’t keep your pet cool, and an animal in a hot car can die within 20-minutes.

Pets aren’t the only animals that need to stay cool this summer. Wildlife is also in need of some help to find water and shade in the high-heat. The Chippewa Valley Wildlife Rehabilitation Center recommends leaving water out in birdbaths, clean water dishes, or even watering plants in the morning for insects and small animals to catch the drops.

A spokesperson for the center says it’s stressful for wildlife to find ways to stay cool, and there are ways to interact without interfering too much.
