JUNETEENTH IN WI

JUNETEENTH IN WI

The Juneteenth Flag is flying over the State Capitol building today for the first time in Wisconsin state history.

On Wednesday, Governor Evers issued an executive order recognizing Juneteenth as a day of celebration commemorating the day enslaved people finally received word of their freedom. He said the day is an opportunity to recognize and reflect on the past and acknowledge the work left to be done. The flag will fly over the East Wing of the State Capitol Building today through sunrise tomorrow.

Here in our area, the University of Wisconsin Eau Claire is hosting online Juneteenth events all day. Beginning at 9 a.m., there will be presentations and conversations on race and equality highlighting issues like police brutality, education, and everyday life.
