WI IN D.C.: JOHNSON ON 9/11; SENATOR BALDWIN ON GUN CONTROL

Homeland security and terrorism is top of mind at a hearing at the 9/11 Memorial in New York City.  The committee chairman Wisconsin Senator Ron Johnson said today it’s important to ask the hard questions about security and the challenges of the last 18 years.  The committee is hearing from three former Homeland Security secretaries about how the nation is adapting to emerging threats of terrorism.

On the topic of gun control, Senator Tammy Baldwin says it’s time for Majority Leader Mitch McConnell to allow the Senate to vote on gun control measures.  The Wisconsin Democrat is back in Washington as Congress returns from its summer recess.  Baldwin says today that the House of Representatives passed bipartisan legislation to expand background checks to all gun sales six months ago and the Senate now has an opportunity to take action on it.
